Current Connection 2.1

In the article "Breaking down public and private schools" by Jessica Gaspar, writer in NextStepU website, she talks about what a state college offers and what a private college offers. A state college, offering afordable cost, evidently would be a good choice for me.

So what does a state college have to offer?  Most state colleges have a low tuition fee, therefore a public college would most likely be anyone’s decision. The only difference between a public college and a private college is where the funding is coming from. Public colleges get money from the state that helps them insure the education cost. People, struggling to make a big decision on a college, most likely will choose a public university.

A private college, outragioulsy expensive, has many benefits as well. Ian Jones chose a private college. This student at John F. Kennedy University (JFKU) in California, says, “I like the small class size, more personal attention from the instructors, and that I’m not just a number.”
Although you may choose a private college, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll recieve a better education that you woud a public university.

Coming to a crossroad, you dont know which is best fit and would benefit you most. This is very hard especially when it comes to seniors in high school. Choosing a college because your friends are going there or because of where it ranks on a list does not take into account who you are and who you will become. College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won. Finding a good fit requires time and thoughtfulness.

Visiting college Web sites and learning about what events take place, who visits as guest speakers, and how to get in touch with current students and faculty is a good way to decide if you want to spend the time and money on a visit. Check a school's Web site to find the admissions officer. Send them an e-mail to ask about getting in touch with students identifying a few with interests similar to yours.

All in all, this is your BIG DECISION and making this decision carefully will surely benefit you in the end. Remember, this is the crossroad of your high school career, to your college career and potentially a good job in the end. "Every decision is liberating, even if it leads to disaster. Otherwise, why do so many people walk upright and with open eyes into their misfortune?" -Elias Canetti

Current Connection: 1.2

Students, during the last year of their college career, began to question the importance of a college education. So they question themselves of why going to college is so important? Well, going to college is important because it provides more opportunities for those with a college degree than those who dont have a higher education than high school.

With an economy only slowly recovering from a deep recession, and jobs still scarce those seeking employment are increasingly realizing the value and importance of a college degree. Oftentimes, because of such an overwhelmingly large pool of seekers, an applicant without an Associate’s, Bachelor’s or even a Master’s degree can automatically be thrown out of an employer’s search, all for a simple lack of certifiable credentials.

While many students think that immidiatley going to work right after high school sounds satifying, truth is, going to college would be better in the long run dispise tuition cost, etc. Data from the government proves that higher education degree completion is important for job seekers; according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2009 the unemployment rate was more than twice as high for persons without a high school diploma than for persons with an Associate’s degree.

An outragious number of todays graduates are unable to find any high paying jobs that were once available. So a college degree serves as a gate way to better opportunities financially than those of a high school diploma.  The more connections you get during your college career, the more options you will have when you go looking for jobs.

Finally, in the job search most applicants notice that connections to people inside and outside their field are a great, almost unrivaled resource. Persons you meet during your career as a student—whether they be professors, instructors, fellow classmates or school administrators—can have a very positive effect on your future prospects. They can recommend your work, mention your name to others, and provide the resources necessary to find the perfect job. So, when calculating the cost-benefit ratio of continuing on or returning to school next semester, be sure to take into mind not only the future possible salary implications, but also the other skills and resources you may attain during the education process.

Current Connection 1.1

The importance of an education is pretty important, especially in the economy we are in now. Education is not all about studying and getting good marks. It is really a means to discover new things which we don't know about and increase our knowledge. Gaurav Barr

An educated person has the ability to differentiate between right and wrong or good and evil. It is the foremost responsibility of a society to educate its citizens. A person becomes perfect with education as he is not only gaining something from it, but also contributing to the growth of a nation -Gaurav Barr

Working hard on a goal and being praised for their intelligence is a great thing for a student. First you have been rewarded for your work and secondly people admire you for your knowledge, showing education can make you feel happy and satisfied with yourself. In many countries, children do not get to have and equal education as us American citizens; therefore, we should take pride in our country for our education system.

Its normal to think that in order to be someone in life you would have to continue your education after high school. My parents are examples of this. Ever since my parents were kids, they dreamed of growing up and becoming professionals. My dad wanted to be a lawyer and my mom wanted to become a teacher. But what happened? My dad graduated from high school and then just started working immediately. My mom just recently graduated from college in 2011 with a business degree, but still, she isnt a teacher yet.

Depending on the level of success you’re seeking to achieve, the level of education may be relative, but the bottom line is, an education of some sort is often paramount to future success. Completing increasingly advanced levels of education shows that you have a drive and commitment to learn and apply information, ideas, theories, and formulas to achieve a variety of tasks and goals.-Andrea Santiago
