Current Connection 2.1

In the article "Breaking down public and private schools" by Jessica Gaspar, writer in NextStepU website, she talks about what a state college offers and what a private college offers. A state college, offering afordable cost, evidently would be a good choice for me.

So what does a state college have to offer?  Most state colleges have a low tuition fee, therefore a public college would most likely be anyone’s decision. The only difference between a public college and a private college is where the funding is coming from. Public colleges get money from the state that helps them insure the education cost. People, struggling to make a big decision on a college, most likely will choose a public university.

A private college, outragioulsy expensive, has many benefits as well. Ian Jones chose a private college. This student at John F. Kennedy University (JFKU) in California, says, “I like the small class size, more personal attention from the instructors, and that I’m not just a number.”
Although you may choose a private college, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll recieve a better education that you woud a public university.

Coming to a crossroad, you dont know which is best fit and would benefit you most. This is very hard especially when it comes to seniors in high school. Choosing a college because your friends are going there or because of where it ranks on a list does not take into account who you are and who you will become. College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won. Finding a good fit requires time and thoughtfulness.

Visiting college Web sites and learning about what events take place, who visits as guest speakers, and how to get in touch with current students and faculty is a good way to decide if you want to spend the time and money on a visit. Check a school's Web site to find the admissions officer. Send them an e-mail to ask about getting in touch with students identifying a few with interests similar to yours.

All in all, this is your BIG DECISION and making this decision carefully will surely benefit you in the end. Remember, this is the crossroad of your high school career, to your college career and potentially a good job in the end. "Every decision is liberating, even if it leads to disaster. Otherwise, why do so many people walk upright and with open eyes into their misfortune?" -Elias Canetti
